* BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, June 6. An open air mass meeting was held at Hyde Park to-day with reference to the state of affairs in Ireland. Mr Parnell, M.P. for Meath, was present, and addressed the meeting, commenting upon the present condition of Ireland and demanding that the Government should at once take steps to put a stop to the eviction of tenants from their holdings, in order to avert the serious consequences that would result if such practices were permitted to continue. The question of the neutrality of the inter-oceanic canal now in course of construction across the Isthmus of Panama is being considered by the Great Powers, but up to the present time no definite information as to the result of the negotiations has ti’anspired. Paris, June 6. Telegrams have been received from Algeria, reporting that a party of 26 engineers and workmen engaged in the construction of a line of telegraph, have been massacred by native Arabs. LATEST AUSTRALIANNEWS. Melijourne, June 7. The Postmaster-General has issued a circular dispatch to the Governments of the other Colonies, urging them to join in a postal convention. The despatch further suggests that the Colonies should contribute towards a possible loss on oceanic service. June 8. Owing to a severe gale which blew here lust night, the ship Bulwaik,

1300 tons, is on her beam ends opposite the Fisherman’s Bend, in the Yana. She is completely waterlogged. A very high sea is running. The overland line between Adelaide and Port Darwin is interrupted.
