The following is a copy of the Hon. Secretary's despatch to the Central Board, which meets at Greymouth tomorrow : The Chairman and Members of the Education Board of the District of Westland. Gentlemen I am directed by this Committee to call your attention to the impossibility of their carrying on the
schools under their charge unless provision is made by the Board for the necessary expenses. I enclose an estimate of the necessary expenditure on the three schools in the charge of the Committee, amounting to the following sums for the current year:— £ s. d. Kumara School ... 136 0 0 Greenstone School ... 38 0 0 Westbrook School ... 26 0 0 Total £2OO 0 0 The whole amount allowed by the Board is £4O, leaving a deficiency of £l6O. If the above estimate of is compared with that incurred last year by the three schools having the nearest average attendance of scholars, it will be seen that it is a moderate one— School.
