The Hospital Committee hold their usual meeting to-night at 8 o’clock, at the Secretary’s room, Main street. Mr T. S. Weston, one of the candidates for the Grey Valley election, will address the electors at Foley’s Hotel, Westbrook, at half-past seven o’clock this evening. The Licensing Court for the district of Kumara opened at noon to-day, and in twelve minutes the thirty-six applications

for licensed and renewals of licenses were dealt with> and the Court adjourned. The continuation of the reply of the Chairman Local School Committee has assumed such proportions and reaches us so late in the day that we are compelled to hold it Over till to-morrow.

Two unimportant civil cases Came on for hearing at the Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day, but as there was no appearance in either case they were slrttck out. The late Captain Garrard is said to have been engaged to Mias Buckhurst, of Emerald Sill, Melbourne. The shock caused her a serious illness, and she remained inaensible for a considerable time.

A man was arrested at Newcastle, N.S.W., for drunkenness, and fined. He paid the fine, went home, and cut his throat.

Another grand church is to be erected for the Presbyterian denomination in Victoria. This time the site is to be St. Kilda.
