A public meeting was held at King’s Adelphi Hotel, Greenstone, last evening, to receive a deputation from the Kumara Hospital Committee, in reference to the advantages of a closer affinity of the Greenstone district with the Kumara Hospital. Messrs Kiely and Nicholson represented the Kumara Committee. The meeting was well attended, and Mr Rowe was appointed chairman. The delegates pointed out the greater advantage the Kumara institution possessed as compared to Greymouth, on account of its nearness to Greenstone an important consideration in oases of accident, which generally required the immediate removal of the unfortunate person to the nearest surgeon and place where he or she could be well and readily attended to. But in recognising the Kumara institution in this way it would also be necessary that the people of the Greenstone district should contribute to the support of that institution. Several gentlemen expressed their entire concurrence with the proposals of the Kumara Hospital Committee, and Mr Biggs proposed and Mr Hayes seconded—“ That this district being so much nearer Kumara than Greymouth, this meeting considers it advisable to become subrcribers to the Kumara Hospital.” The motion was put and carried unanimously. The following gentlemen were then appointed a sub-committee to collect subscriptions and issue tickets j Messrs
Jas. Biggs, Thos. Rowe, John Rose, Robert Harris, and Edmund King. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings.
