In the evidence to-day it came out that the Union Company admitted the boats and life-saving apparatus on board the vessel were only for 136 passengers, whilst the Government surveyor’s declaration was that it was sufficient for 221 The Court will call the attention of the Government to this. The Minister of Pnblic Works, it is understood, has decided to lease the railway workshops at Port Chalmers, where a valuable plant is standing idle.
