The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. FRIDAY, MAY 6, 1881.

Jurors summoned to attend the District Court, Hokitika, on Monday next, are informed by announcement in another column, that their attendance will not be required.

From the Broad Arrow of February 19th, we find the Doterel, reported in our cablegrams as blown up, was a sloop ship, about 1200 tons and 800-horse power, carrying 6 guns, R. Evans, commander. She left Plymouth Sound on February 12, for the Pacific Station, to relieve the Penguin. She was to call at Madeira, St. Vincent, Cape de Verds, and Monte Video, whence she was to proceed to Valparaiso.

The returns fix the population of the Reefton Riding at about 1000. The Murray Riding contains 302 inhabitants, while the population of the Antonio's Riding is 386.

Fresh tenders are required by the Borough for the supply of gravel, according to the new specifications. A telegram from Adelaide states that Mrs J. L. Hall (formerly Emily Wiseman), is dead. The death of one of the earliest settlers in the Inangahua, in the person of Mr John Williams, of Fern Flat, is recorded in the Herald, after an illness of a week only, on Sunday evening. As a settler, Mr Williams was very successful, and at the time of his death was largely interested in the best mines in the district. He was a man of great integrity and independence of character, and for these qualities was held in much esteem by all classes.

To those in search of merriment, visit S. S. Pollock's, and obtain the great Irish song "The Babies in our Block," or "Little Sally Waters"; price sixpence. [Advt.]
