BRITISH AND FOREIGN,

London, April 25. Both Houses of Parliament resumed to-day after the Easter recess.

In the House of Commons, the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone made a speech, in which he referred in terms of deep regret to the death of the late Earl Beacousfield, and gave notice of motion, which is to come on in a fortnight’s time, in favor of funds being voted for the erection of a monument to the late Earl in Westminster Abbev.

In the House of Lords several Peers took occasion to refer to the death of Earl Beaconsfield, all expressive of great regret at the sad event. Intelligence has been received that a Franch force has crossed the frontier from Algeria into Tunis without opposition.

Capetown, April 13. News is to hand from Natal that the demeanor of the rival Boers factions in Transvaal causes considerable anxiety. The Royal Commission appointed to undertake the settlement of the Transvaal question will commence its deliberations shortly. Constantinople, April 25. The Porte has received information from Dervisch Pasha, slating that since the defeat which he inflicted on the insurgent Albanians at Uskiop last week, he has pushed on with his force, and has now entered the Albanian town of Prierend. Dervisch Pasha, moreover, announces that, owing to the defeat of the insurgents, the Albanian League has completely collapsed.

Melbourne, April 26. The committee on the awards of the International Exhibition has awarded the Emperor of Germany’s special prize to Messrs De Castella and Rowan, of St. Hubert’s Vineyard, for Australian wines. There were thirteen competitors for the prize.

The Intercolonial Meterological Confesrence continues its sittings. It has been decided to arrange for an exchange of weather telegrams between New Zealand and Australia.

Sydney, April 25. The police made a successful raid Inst night upon Chinese gambling houses. Twenty-nine Chimamen who were taking part in the game were arrested.
