[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, April 13. A telegram from Collingwood states that two men named Robert Besgrove and Yankee Smith were drowned in Salisbury Creek on the sth instant. They were crossing in a canoe which upset. The body of Besgrove has been recovered. Timaru, April 12. Over 131,000 sacks of grain have been received at the railway station in this district this season. To this amount may be added fully 60,000 sacks delivered at Timaru by d.*ays. Christchurch, April 13. There are now six large ships in Lyttelton flying the New Zealand Shipping Company’s flag of an aggregate capacity of 10,000 tons. The blocks of grain are expected to be speedly swept away. A man named George Sadler on arriving from England with a letter of credit for £SO, found on arrival that a duplicate which came by mail has been cashed by another George Sadler. The culprit, who is a laboring man, and could neither read nor write, said he thought it came from his mother in Gloater. He was committed for trial. A little boy named Templeton, six years old, was drowned to-day. He was playing on the bank of the Waimakariri, and fell in. A quarter of an hour elapsed before he could be got out, and all attempts to restore him failed.
