BRITISH AND FOREIGN. St. Petersburg, March 14. The Assassination of the Emporer has led to no disturbance in this city, and all is perfectly quiet. The Czavewitch has been received with shouts of acclamation. Expressions of condolence and sympathy with the Imperial family have been received from all the crowned heads of Europe. The Czar, Alexander the 111., has issued a manifesto upon his accession to the throne of Russia. Ilis Majesty strongly denounces the murderous attack made on the dynasty. The manifesto gives no outline of the future Imperial policy. London, March 14. Sir Stafford Northcoto has issued a manifesto condemning the proposal of tile Government to demand “ urgency” to consideration of supply in Committee oi v/ays and Means, lie declared that such a course would be subversive ol the lights and privileges of the House of Commons. Large meetings under the auspices of the Land League were held yesterday at 20 different places in Ireland. Ail passed off without disturbance. New Zealand securities remain at following quotations Five Per Cent Loan 102-| ; Five Per Cent. (1SS0) Loan, llfft. • Four and a Half Per Cent. (1879 —1904) Loan, 974. At the wool sales to-day, 8,800 bales were catalogued. The tone of the sale was firm, and there was an active demand for the lots offered. In the House of Commons to-day, a motion was introduced by the Government asking that a Supply Bill should be declared “ urgent.” A lengthy debate ensued, in the course of which great opposition was shown on both sides of the House to the proposal, and the motion was finally negatived by a considerable majority. * LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Adelaide, March 15. The necessary preliminary arrangements for holding an International Exhibition in the City have now been completed Mr Morgan, Premier, has modified his manifesto of last month. He now proposes to defer the intended reduction of duties except those of agricultural implements.
