KUMARA LARRIKINISM.
[to the editor.]
. Sju—Tn Saturday's issue of the Grey River Argus I see that the " Own Correspondent " has been nibbing down the parents of the Kumara children by styling them " Uirrikins," nnd, I imagine, ho'ding up his hands in holy horror at the iniquity of the times ; as Dundreary has it, " Poor Sam !" when pitying his brother when stuck at Yankee grab for cobblers, thinking the poor fellow was dead. So we say with regard to the "Own Correspondent," only ring the changes and say " Poor Goody Good !" and hope he may survive the horrible torture he is exposed to by witnessing the degradation of the children of Kumara, composed principally of vagabonds of the mature years of from six to nine years, and even under, who'by their unearthly bowlings and oilier noises render night hideous. Why do not our veiy efficient guardians of the peace pay attention to the great outcry made, and, by arresting and having brought to condign punishment the burly offenders ,
against law and order, console the feel - ings of the “Own Correspondent” who is so troubled in spirit for their future. I think, from some comments made lately from onr judicial seat by one of the worthy J. Ps. about petty larceny, they would not find it. difficult to sheet home convictions and thereby satisfy him, So• that lie might sleep in peace. “ Seddou street principally,” he mentions; I know the reason : being out of the way of the immense traffic carried on in Main and the other street*, they resort there, where without the soft impeachment of being ail informer, I may tell the police they will find dozens every night. Advanch ! prolific Seddou street ! afier the absurd report sent to the world through the medium of the G. R. A. I think farther comment needless, therefore I conclude.—l anij itc., Paterfamilias (Of Seddon street). March 7, 1881.
