LATE CABLE NEWS.
[By Telegraph.] London, January 3i. The cteath is announced of Mr Marsh, ahold Australian colonist, and Fellow of the Royal Colonial institute. Some years ago Mr Marsh represented Salisbury in the douse of Commons. February 1. A meeting has been held in Paris by the promoters of the scheme for the Construction of the canal across the Isthmus of Panama. Baron de Lesseps stated that although the work was of enormous magnitude* he had no hesitation in affirming that the undertaking would be completed within seven years. Disastrous floods have Occtirred in California. Damage to the extent of a million dollars has been done in Sacramento Capital State. A number of Fenian proclamations have been posted in England and Ireland, causing considerable uneasiness to the authorities. The Boers are conducting their warlike operations humanely, and have been granted belligerent rights by the British commander. February 3. The death is announced of Sir Henry Watson Parker, K.C.8., who was the first Minister and Principal Secretary at the institution of responsible Government in New South Wales in 1856. He was Private Secretary to Governor Sir Geo. Gibbs from 1838 to. 1 1846. I The Conservatives are entirely in harmony with the Government in their endeavors to put a stop to the continued obstruction Of the Home Rulers. Mr. the member for Ennis, having obstructed the proceedings .of the House was expelled, and twentyseven remaining Home Rulers refusing to quit their seats for the division, where thereupon named by the Speaker and likewise expelled. Mr Dillon was expelled for interrupting Mt Gladstone, and Messrs Parnell and Fiiiigan were expelled individually for persisting in proposing that Mr Gladstone be nob heard. Five others were expelled for interrupting Mr Gladstone. These members did not follow the example of Messrs Parnell and Dillon in offering forcible resistance; but all withdrew Chamber upon being touched by the Sergeant-at-Arms. . , February 6.
. The feeling expressed by the Radical Press aud the representatives of that party upon the action taken by the House of Commons in the expulsion of Parnell and his adherents, is that while condemning strongly the cbntioued obstruction by those members, and the insult to the Legislature, they deplore that any action should be taken calculated in any way to seriously infringe* upon the rights of minorities or upon free untrammelled discussion. It was rumored to-day that the Cabinet have under consideration the desirableness of taking measvres to disband the Irish Land League as being dangerous to the well-being of Ireland* and inimical to the authority of the Imperial Government in that country. Agitation has been commenced among women in Ireland, headed by Miss Parnell, for the purpose of advocating the claims of the Irish - Land League. Meetlugs are being held at which inflammatory harrangues are made in support of the movement.
.There is no prospect of the strike among the coal miners in Lancashire being brought to an end. The workmen make persistent demands, and the masters have signified their intention not t» yield. Other colliers have joined those on strike, and it is feared other trades will be affected. A telegram has been received from Suez, announcing that Arabian tribes are forming themselves into a military league for the purpose of freeing themselves from the dominion of Turkey.
