[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, January 31. A sad accident happened at the Kaiapoi Borough School this morning to George Kin ley's daughter, 11 years of age. She was swinging others in a boat swing, when it came in contact with her, breaking her left thigh and dislocating the right. Dr Overden and Mr Pinching succeeded in setting the broken limb and reducing the dislocation. At latest accounts she was pro. gtessing favorably. TimAru, January 31. A man named Timothy Fitzgerald was drowned in r the Waiho Rivet*, on Saturday. At the inquest to-day > a verdict of accidental death was returned^ The weather continues excessively hot, and there is great demand for labor for harvest work. If the fine weather continues for another three weeks, the cr >p will be one of the finest ever reaped in the Colony. CANTERBURY V. AUSTRALIANS. Christchurch, January 31. The cricket match, Canterbury 15 v. Australians, was resumed to-iay, Murdoch and Sleight going to the wicket. The latter was injured and retired, finishing his innings when the others were out. Murdoch made 111, and was in a little over four hours ; Sleijjht, 45, not nut; Boyle, 32; Blackham,3B; Tobin, 31 ; Jarvis, and Alexander, 0 ; Palmer, 3. The innings closed at 5.30, for 323 runs. About 10,000 were present. Splendid weather.
