A BRITISH CAVALRYMAN.

They do not play at soldiering in the British cavalry. At fifreen minutes after 5 a.m. the recruit is in the stable attending to his horse. At forty-five minutes past 5 riding drill commences

At half-past six he has supper, and from f to 8 he has to • clean His boots, belts and other equipments; In addition to the above, he has to take his share of fatigue-duty, such as sweeping the barracks, carrying hay, cdrn and straw to the stables. Once a week he has to mount guard in the stable all night. He thus does fifteen hours' work daily, and on anything but silficient food.
