[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Westport, January 7. Nearly every publican in town was prosecuted to-day for permitting their houses to remain open after 11 o'clock on New Year's Eve. Irines were inflicted in the majority of cases. Christchurch, January 7. The notorious Michael Murphy was found guilty of a pet jury charge to-day at the Supreme Court and sentenced to two years' hard labor. Watt, who was charged with him, and who has been three months in gaol, pleaded guilty and got six months. Kittenbnrg, the jockey who was severly injured at Rangiora, has recovered consciousness, and is now expected to recover. Timauu, January 6. Seven tenders were received by the Harbor Board to-day for the construcion of the third section of the breakwater—that of Jones and Peters at .£4,940 being accepted. It was resolved to at once connect the wharves with the railway line. A petition signed by over 100 influential citizens was received in favor of carrying the breakwater 400 feet further out to sea than was originally intended. The petitiou was favorably received, and Government will be communicated with accordingly. The work so far has been a great success, and provides shelter for vessels drawing 15 feet depth of water. The outer end is now 220 feet at low spring tides. The board have still over .£40,000 in hand out of the .£IOO,OOO endowment. Wellington, January 7. His Excellency leaves for Manakau by the steamer Hinemoa this evening. The Hon. Mr Rolleston will be the Minister in attendance during the tour in the North Island. The case of Wherepa. the Chatham Island murderer, 'is nOw under the consideration of the Executive. The Premier and Native Minister returned from the South to-day. Auckland, January 6. Mrs Hampson has concluded ner evangelistic mission, securing 400 converts to the .different churches. She has to hand numerous invitations to visit country disf rices. The boat's crew which is to represent Auckland at the Interprovincial Regatta, arrived from northern Wairoa. They proceed to Panmuro to practice Taranaki till the regatta. In a challenge lawn tennis match between J. M. Dargaville and Allen M'Donald, M.H.R. the former won the stakes, which went to the local charities. At the Good Templar's Conference, maternal greetings were received from Capetown and Levnka. Subscriptions here taken up to defray the expense of the expected visit to the Colony of R. W.G.C.S.
