BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, December 30. Latest intelligence from the Cape reports that the Boers have captured the court-house at Potochefstrom, and are making preparation to besiege the fort. Consols, unchanged at New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. Total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England, £12,875,000. The markets for Australian and New Zealand produce are Unchanged. December 31. Owing to the excitement which is pervading in Dublin, in consequence of the trial of the Land Leaguers, extra military preparations are being made in the city for the preservation of order. Yery heavy snow storms have fallen in England during the past few days, and in many districts serious floods have resulted on breaking up of the frost. Considerable loss of property has occurred, and, owing to the extreme cold, much distress has been experienced by the poor classes. Berlin, December 30. The report which was current that a German ironclad squadron was going to the Pacific, is denied-. Paris, December 30. The French ironclad Richelieu has been destroyed by fire at Toulon. Capetown, December 3L A report comes to hand to-day, from the Transvaal, that the Beets have followed up their recent successes by occupying Pretoria, the capital town. The rumor, however, requires confirmation. New York, December 31. Intense cold continues to be experienced throughout the States, and heavy storms have fallen in many parts. + LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, December 30. The following team play the Australian Eleven on Saturday and following days:—Campbell, Cooper, Evans, Elliott, Mackay, Kendall, Garrett, D. Gregory, Horan, Massie, Midwinter; emergency man, A. Gregory. December 21. All the horses have been scratched for the Champion Slakes to-morrow, excepting Sweetmeat, Wellington, Progress, Trcvallyn, Cynic, and Grand Planner. The Government offers a free pardon to any of the accomplices in the Tararna gold robbery, who may bring forward evidence leading to conviction. Sydney, December 30. Produce and other markets remain unchanged. The Rev. Mr Brown, writing from New Ireland on 25th November, reports that favorable progress is being made in De-try’s new colony. THE CHAMPION RAGE. Melbourne, January 1. The attendance on the Flemington Course to-day was the largest of any Champion meeting. The weather was splendid. His Excellency the Governor was present.
