AH KIN FOO'S TROUBLE.

The following is from an Invercargill paper:—A Chinese settlement in a suburban locality—one of whose residents recently figured in the Police Court—has just been the scene of a transaction which in civilised communities is usually followed by an appeal of the Divorce Court. Sometime ago one of the Celestials succeeded in winning the affections of a European woman, to whom he was in due course married. The fair one was thereupon installed as mistress of Ah Kin Foo's dwelling, and for a time they lived happily together. The poet has it that the "best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley," and this proved true, as the sequel will show, in the case of Mr Foo's matrimonial project. While he was engaged iu disposing of his vegetables one of his fellow-country-men, whose special duty it was to attend to the garden, formed the acquaintance of Mrs Foo, and the result was that they soon added another to the long list of those who have " loved not wisely but too well." To make a long story short, it may be stated that the other day when Ah Foo returned from town he found that his spouse had " gone off" in company with the other John, leaving behind her an " incumbrance " in the shape of a fine young half-caste boy. When Ah Foo next went his rounds it was noticed that his facial expression was unusually sad, aud he was asked if anything had happened. This elicited a brief account of his domestic troubles as they how appear in print. He seemed quite resigned to his position, for on being asked if he would not seek vengeance on the " destroyer of his happiness," he replied, "Me no touchee him j me no care."
