[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, June 23. At a meeting of the unemployed, held to-day, a telegram from the delegates at Wellington was read stating that Mr Blair told the Government that the men at Weka Pass received rations at Is 3d per day while the work was let by contract. This was denied by the men present, who said it was not so. A great deal more about emigration to America was said and the feeling was in favor of pushing thid on, so as to hold it as a threat over the Government if they did not find work. Dunedin, June 23. A fire broke out at the premises of Neme, chemist, Uaversbam, and caused damage to the extent of ,£2O. It is stated here that Mr Brown, M.H.H., will not act as Opposition whip this session. A man named Harland had one of .4 his hands injured by the explosion of his gun-while out shooting at Carterton on Monday. The Government received a telegram from Mr Bryce stating that the natives had abandoned the fence which they were repairing and have erected another one across the road line about ■ threequarters of a mile further on. the fence was knocked down by the constabulary, but was re-erected by the natives. At this st&ge the natives removed without any violence when they, T said, "That is enough, xve 'will now ! desist, let the road go on.". They refused to say under whose orders they were acting.
