WANGA* NUI WITH TWO LIVES. Dunedinj June 21. The Standard Insurance Companyreceived a telegram advising them of the total loss of Messrs Houghton and CVs., steamer Wanganui, between Sydney and the Clarence River. She was insured for £3,500 distributed as follows -.—Australian Alliance, £437,10s j Dei-went and" Taniar, £437 10s; Batavia, £437 10s; Union, of New Zealand, £437 10s; Colonial, of New Zealand, £437 10s ; National, of NewZealand, £437 10s; Globe, £437 10s j Imperial, £218; Universal, £2lB 15s; Captain Bayldon telegraphed this afternoon to Messrs Houghton aud Co., from. Clarence heads, which is 320 miles from Sydney:—"The Wanganui is a total loss. She sunk and two lives Were lost." The Wanganui was trading between Sydney and the Clarence River. The National tusurance Company took out in Sydney a £3,500 policy, distributing the amount among the offices above. Most of the los3 therefore falls on the Sydney bi'anch of the companies named. The vessel's value is put down at £6,000.
