We learn from Wellington that the “ Government will have a majority of nine or ten ” in the division on the no-confi-dence motion of Sir George Grey’s, and that “the Opposition are only wasting the time of the House.” We are glad to notice that Mr Thomas lias commenced running an express daily between here and Dillman’s Town, as although the road is good between the two places there are many persons who have business to transact which through this means of communication they can do far more expeditiously. At a sitting of the Licensing Betich held in Christchurch on Wednesday last the application of Mr J. Barrett for the Borough Hotel was refused as the Bench held that on the evidence adduced the licensee was not a person fitted to hold a license, and as they did not want to throw any difficulties in his way the Bench made an order giving Mr Barrett one month from the Ist of July to dispose of the house. The grounds of refusal were chiefly in connection with the riot that occurred in Christchurch last Boxing clay, a large amount of evidence being taken thereon. A reward of £5 is offered by Mr Maher for the clisCoveay of the person who broke the water-guage of his new engine at Larrikins. This very probably is the act of some mischievious larrikin, and it is to be hoped that the guilty party will be speedily brought to justice and punished. Mr Alexander Miller who has been so long and favorably known as an accomplished violinist, intimates through our. columns that he ie now prepared to receive pupils who may be desirous of receiving instructions on that instrument.
