Tin* West Coast .members to-day waited on the Minister of Public Works, who promised "that the contract for the second section of the Kumara sludge-channel should be let; but "it will be held over for a short time.'/ Aid to either the Long Tunnel or Porter's Tunnel was absolutely refused. For the future Government will only assist works undertaken by local bodies. The Hokitika and Grey Railway 13 lost to view for ever. The schedules under the Government proposals place the West Coast in a sorry plight at present.
