BRITISH AND FOREIGN. Lon don - , June 3. The Australians commenced their match to-day against IS of Burnley, in Lancashire. There was a good attendance of the public. The Australians went in first and scored IIS, of which Murdoch made 56, and was run out. The Home team then went in, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had made 19, with the loss of 9 wickets. O'une 4. In the House of Lords last night, the new Burials Bill was read a second time. The measure provides that the burial of dissenters should be permitted to take place in church-yard cemetciies without the recital of the Church of England service. The cricket match between the Australians and IS of Burnley, in Lancashire, was concluded to-day, and resulted in a victory for the Australians in an innings and 27 runs to spare. In the second innings of the Burnley men, Spofforth took 12 wickets in 15 overs. The Australian team has now scored its fifth win, with one drawj in its favor, and has ndt yet lost a match. Constantinople, June 4. The question as to whether the sentence of death passed on Mahomet Heli, assassin of the Russian attache, Colonel Commeroff, should be carried out still remains unsettled. The Sultan desires that the sentence should be commuted, and has referred the matter to the Tilemas, who will decide Upon the course to be pursued. The Right Hon. Mr Goscheu, the newly-appointed special ambassador to the Porte, had an audience to-day, with the Sultan. Mr Goschen expre ;sed a hope that the Sultan would take speedy steps to bring about the necessary ’ reforms in Turkey, so that prosperity 'to , his subjects of all races and religions might be assured. It lias hot transpired what answer was returned by the Sultan to Mr Goschcn. Rangoon, June 4. Information has been received that a party of Burmese rebels, who have been on a foraging expedition, and who had been defeated in an encounter with the Burmese troops, have re-crossed the frontier into their territory, LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, June 4. The debate in the Assembly on the Reform Bill continues. There are increasing doubts whether the Government will obtain a majority of the House in favor of the measure in the second reading, which is expected to take place on the 10th of Juue. Should a statutory majority not be obtained, a dissolution of the Assembly is sure to come about. The barque Madras has arrived from Java. . She caught fire off Cape Leilwin, but it was extinguished without much difficulty. A portion of the cargo was damaged, and a further quantity was jettisoned. It is now stated that Lay cock has tiO intention to row in England.
