May 7. The Channel Squadron has returned from its cruise in search of the missing training ship Atlanta. The mission has proved to be fruitless.
The Daily News, in a leading article to-day, states that the English Cabinet lias issued a circular despatch to the Great Powers inviting them to cooperate with the British Government in enforcing a strict execution of the Treaty of Berlin where the same has been so far unfulfilled in regard to international affairs in Turkey, and the rectification of the Turko-Grsek frontier.

The barque, British Queen, bound from Charente to Melbourne, put in at the Cape owing to the crew having mutinied and broached the cargo. May 8. A bottle has been found on the beach at Portland, containing a paper signed John Webster, and dated February 23 1880, stating that the ship Knowsley Hall was wrecked on the Crozets, and that all on board had perished except three who are destitute, and are subsisting on fish. Doubts ate generallyexpressed as to the authenticity of the message. May 9, It is believed that the bottle found at Portland, relating to the KnoWsley. Hall, wrecked at Crozets, is only a hoax. The barque Lewel Brindio, which arrived from Java with a serious case of fever on board has been placed in quarantine. Sydney, May 8. A crowded meeting was held last night and adopted resolutions denouncing certain clauses in the new Licensing Bill which are calculated to suppress Sunday lectures. The Hon. Bowie Wilson, was in the chair and David Buchanan, M.L.A., Charles Bright, the freethought lecturer, and the Rev. J. Bowie spoke at the meeting. G. R, Dibbs, defendant in the great slander case, has been arrested, and his furniture attached for payment of Shepherd’s costs. A meeting has been held to initiate a Meat Freezing Company with a capital of £IOO,OOO. Brisbane, May 8. A meeting was held here yesterday for the purpose of starting a Meat Freezing Company, towards which £50,000 has already been subscribed. The Adelaide Cup.
