The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. THURSDAY, MAY 6, 1880.

A sitting of the Resident Magistrate’s Court was held this afternoon, but the business had not concluded at the time we went to press.

Owing to the inclemency of the weather the Georgia Minstrels gave no entertainment at the Adelphi Theatre last evening, the programme, however, then announced will be given this evening. As the Committee of the Kumara Prospecting Association meet at the Town Hall this evening, we republish the names of those persons who were elected at the late public meeting as committee-men, and trust to see the majority of them present on the occasion of the meeting this evening. The following are the names:— Kumara : Messrs Blake, Campbell, Home, Pollock, O’Hagan, Hanna, Simmons, J. Holmes, Skilton, Drummond, M. Davidson, Munyard, M'Gee, D. Williams, A. Millar, P. Adamson, J. Owens, J. Metcalf. Dillman’s Town and Larrikin’s : Messrs A. Foldi, R. Millson, T. T. Lohmann J. Elders, C. Peters, J. Reynolds, S. Agnew, J. Everett, P. Barrowman, J. Corbett, D. Beattie, T. Levett, Richd. Rothwell, J. Isbister, W. Caldwell, T. Brown, R. M‘Kenzie, G. B. Way, J. Skipper, A. Ross, W. Beattie, G. Mansfield, E. Kennedy, John Moran, Salvador, M. Barrowman.

The Georgia Minstrels, with a most praiseworthy intention, have announced they"will give a benefit to-morrow evening on behalf of the funds of the Kuraara Prospecting Association. As this determination on the part of the troupe might at first sight appear an extraordinary one, we may mention, in justice to the Georgias, that, intending to give a benefit on behalf of some local object they first interviewed the hospital authorities, who, as they had made other arrangements declined the kind offer made by the troupe on behalf of that institution. Hearing on their first arrival here of a public meeting having been held the previous evening for the purpose of reorganising a prospecting association in this district, and their offer on behalf of the Hospital having been declined, they made a similar one to the Secretary of the Prospecting Association, who, on behalf of the Committee, gladly accepted the offer; the outcrop of which is the splendid programme that appears in another column for that occasion. As the committee meet this evening we shall have some further remarks to make on this subject in our next issue.

The Greymouth and Kumara Tramway Company cannot be complimented on the means they adopt to give publicity to an alteration in their time-table or any other matter requiring publicity, inasmuch as the posting one or two small writtten notices about the town only defeats the very object in view, as no person would believe for one moment they emenated or were issued under the authority of a body of men whose chief source of revenue is derivable from business in connection with this town, “ Live and let live !” would be a very appropriate motto for the consideration of the direction of the Greymouth and Kumara Tramway Company.

Class I.—Messrs Janion,' Palmer, R. Cross, A. R. Petrie, Rev. E. A. Scott. Class ll.—Messrs Ballantyne, Wiesner, Gill, Holst.
