BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Ah adjourned meeting of the Borough Council was held at the Town Hall at two o’clock on Friday after* noon last. There were present—His Worship the Mayor (J. S. Bearn* Esq.) in the chair, Councillors Camp, bell, Pierson, Pollock, o’Hagan, Horne, and Seddon.
The minutes of the last ordinary and. special meetings were read and con* firmed.
The outward correspondence Was read and approved of. On a letter from Mr G. Simmons being read in the inward Correspond l ence,
Ch Seddon moVed—(and ifa So doing said he had no hesitatiouin saying that Mr Simmons was not legally on the roll as a ratepayer)— u That the Council, having examined and approved of the valuation list, and having also appointed a select committee to invests gate the charges brought against the Town Clerk by Mr G. Simmons, and the Cora raiHe* having reported that there was no foundation—vliatovov for these charges—which report has been unanimously adopted by the the Council moreover, being injustly reflected Upon by Mr G. Simmons in his letter to the West Coast Times of the 21st April i do, under all the circumstances, decline to receive the letter from Mr G. Simmons, jnst read and any other letters on the subject, and refuse to re-open the question in any way.’*
Or, Pollock seconded the motion, Or. Campbell observing that he looked on the letter as nothing but a piece of impudence, ignorance, and pfesUmp tion.
On the resolution being put, it was carried unanimously. -On a letter being read and received from the Town Clerk drawing atten* tkm to a letter from Mr G» Simmons that appeared in the West Coast Times of April 21st last, Cr Campbell moved and Cr Pierson seconded—“ That. the Town Clerk is completely exonerated from the false charges preferred against him by Mr G. Simmons of having cunningly worded the minutes of the Council so aa to alter the mode and object of the inquiry into certain charges.” The motion was put and carried urn animously. Accounts amounting to £B3 4s 7d were passed for payment; after which, as some of the members left, the Council was adjourned.
