Singularly enough the annual dinner o£ the fire brigades was just over, and many congratulations were exchanged on the long immunity from fire in Napier. The damage, was confined to the hotel by the strenuous efforts'.of the brigades, who, .owing to the strong pressure of water from the reservoir, were enabled to cope with the lames. An inquest will probably be held as the insurance offices are dissatisSed.
