Bishop Redwood, who leaves by the San Francisco steamer en route for Rome, was, to-day, presented with a highly complimentary address from the Catholics of Wellington, and in replying to which he expressed the hope of .a speedy return with an additional number of priests for the diocese. A telegram received from Taupo today says a magnificent meteor was seen at nine o'clock last night, which exploded in the sea with a report like heavy artillery. Hawera, March 27. No political significance is attached to the impounding of Stevenson's horses. The animals strayed and the Maoris found them. Everything ia quiet, and apparently satisfactory. The camp is likely to shift next week. Christchurch, March 27. The principal horses, with the except tion of of Fraser's, who are training on private ground, did fast work this morning on the course. At the Police Court to-day, Francis Edward Graves, arrested for stealing £2BO at Sandridge, Victodfc, was remanded for a month, pending the arrival of the warrant. X March 28. There was a large attendance at the Sports on the Agricultural Show grounds yesterday afternoon, and £136 was taken at the gates. There are now some ninety men emplayed at the Waka Pass Railway works (unemployed section). By a fire at Mount Thomas, fifteen stacks of grain were destroyed. They were insured in the London, Liverpool, and Globe for £450, and the Union for £75. Incendiarism, is suspected.
