The P. and O. Company’s steamship Hydaspes, which left this port for Galle, en route for Australia, has put back disabled. The mails have been transferred to the .Assatp, and she sails to-morrow for Gal le and Sydney. London, March 16. The following vessels arrived from New Zealand Mataura, from Port Chalmers, 20th December; Metope, from Lyttelton, 21st December ; Waitangi, from Lyttelton, 3rd December. March 17. The New Zealand loan, 102; and 5| per cent. New Zealand loan, 108. Paris, March 18. The French Ministry is sending a complete set of educational exhibits to the Melbourne Exhibition ; also a delegate to study the Victorian school system.

The Russian Government has notified it will cease diplomatic relations with Tui’key unless the assassin who recently killed Kommihoff at the Russian Embassy at Constantinople received sentence of death.
LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, March 18. Arrived—Rotorua from New Zealand ; also the steamship Durham, from Plymouth. A meeting has been held at which it was resolved to form a company for the purpose of exporting every description of food under the freezing process. An infiuental committee was formed to carry out the objects of the meeting. Mauritius telegram, dated 9th Match, states that suitable sugars are scarce. March 19. It is stated here that the New Zealand Railway Commission is desirous of securing the services of Thos. Higginbothom, formerly Engineer-in-Cbief for Railways in Victoria.. It is further stated that Mr Higginbotham has been communicated with from the New ZeaGovernment, who contemplate making important reductions in the expenses collecting of land tax, (?) The Australian Cricketers sailed today for England in the Garonne. Sydney, March 18. The steamer Cbandanagore has arrived here after landing a colonising party at New Ireland. It is understood that two steamers with a thousand adventurers will follow, shortly from Rome and Barcelonia. The original prospectus of the expedition states it is intended to appropriate North Western Australia.
