A petition having been presented to Government praying for the commutation of the sentence of death, passed upon Joseph Wells, found guilty of shooting William Murphy, with intent to murder, in connection with the sticking up of the National Bank at Cunnamulla, in January last, his Excellency has held the case under consideration, but has refused to commute the sentence of death. Wells will be hanged on Wednesday next.

Legal points having been raised in connection with the conviction of the prisoner Wells, the Governor has granted a respite of the death sentence till the 22nd instant.
