[united press association.] t)uNEDiN, February 9. The Coroners inchest on the bodies of Attwell and Amelia Emma Hayes, was held to-day. The evidence was corroborative of the circumstance previously given. Alfred BrUtltdn, minister, stated he had been on very intimate terms with Hayes for five years. During the past three Weeks or a month he had noticed a grevious and increasing melancholy Coming over him. He thought so badly of Mr Hayes, that on Friday last he told an intimate friend that he wanted looking after, or he did not know what would become of him. The jury found that the dceased, Attwell Hayes, had killed his wife and then committed suicide while in a fit of temporary insanity. Auckland, February 6. Fifty men, lately employed at Dempsey’s reclamation contract, attended the Public Works Office to-day, and received payment of sums for which judgment had been given in the R.M. Court some weeks ago. February 7. A. son of John Lamb, of Waimatea Mills, while working at the reclaiming wall for Britomart, met with a serious accident. A piece of earth fell from above, breaking his leg, and striking the platform, ou which he stood, jerked him off, and he fell from tliirty to forty feet dow the face of the cliff, near Jacobs ladder,
