[united press association.] "VVELLiNdTONj February 2. A fatal boat accident occurred in the harbor this evening. Two men named Pope and Cochrane, were sailing about in a strong S.W. breeze in a small boat off Kaiwarra. A high sea was running, which caused the boat to Bhip a good quantity of water, and during a sudden squall she capsized. Both men clung to the boat, but the sea rising compelled them to strike out for the shore, a distance of about a mile and a half. Pope reached the shore in safety, but Cochrane whet; half way sank and was drowned. Pope states he heard Cochrane calling to him, but a heavy sea prevented him extending any assistance. Cochrane was formerly employed at the Star Hotel, and is a married mac The body has not beeu discovered. Oamaru, February 2. An inquiry was held to-day coucernthe identity of the human remains found in the ruins of the Queen's Hotel, after the fire. Dr Delatour gave evidence to the effect that the bones where those of a human heino-, and although it was not absolutely proved that the remains were those of William King, yet there can be no doubt that he it was who met his death iu the fire.
