[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DESTRUCTION OF PORTION OF THE TAY RAILWAY BRIDGE. TWO HUNDRED PERSONS DROWNED. London, December 29. During a heavy gale a portion of the Tay bridge was destroyed. A train, which was proceeding from Edinburgh to Dundee, while crossing the bridge Shortly afterwards, fell through the casing of the bridge into the river. An enormous loss of life ensued. Although the exact particulars are not received, it is feared the loss of life will be 200 persons drowned. The Empress Eugenie proceeds to Zululand in February.
