Railway from Greymouth to Nelson Creek, £SOOO ; balance for future appropriations, £4OOO. Grey mouth Harbour works, £4OOO. Grcymouth and Hokitika Railway, £4fi,500 ; balance for future appropriation, £173,500. Westport and Ngakawau Railway, £14,000 ; Variance for future appropriation, £GOOO. PROPERTY TAX BILL. "Wellington, December 10. After the Public Works Statement bad been delivered, the House sat till half-past three this morning in committee on the Property Tax Bill. A number of amendments were proposed and divisions taken, but all negatived until Mr Moss proposed an amendment that the rate on household property should be according to the value it

would realise at auction, which was carried. Another amendment proposed by Mr Swanson, to exempt ship building plant was also carried. No other amendments were made. FIRE AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, December 10. A fire at Ration’s, basket maker, Upper Queen street, was soon extinguished by the Brigade. It originated in the cellar. A good deal of the stock was burned : it was insured for £,200 in the Colonial office Sjalney advices report that Godefroy’s South Sea business will probably be carried on.
