MINING REPORT.

[Fuow ora Special Mixrxa Reporter.] I expected befoie this time to have been able to report more shafts on gold at the Larrikins ; but such is not the case, and although several have been sunk, we do not hear of any having got payable gold lately. A number of miners continue to sink, and it is to be hoped that they will be successful in tracing gold further ahead. Reports from tlie Seventeen-mile Beach have been so encouraging that a good number have gone there lately, and by all accounts it is likely to be a good rush. The gold got lately behind Dunedin Flat, although pretty good in a couple of claimsj cannot be traced furtherbut as the ground is shallow and it does not take long to sink the shafts, it is almost sure to be picked up. There is a growing belief in the existence of deeper levels and several parties are about to test it by sinking deeper. Had the Canoe Creek rush not broke out now, there was every reason to believe that gold would have been traced further ahead, hut unless it proves verv extensive there is every liklihood of a number returning here. A good number of men have a fancy for groundsluicing when the channel comes in, and we may expect a large increase to onr population when that work nears completion. The track to Larrikins from Hillman's town has been pegged out by the Councils road overseer, showing when the dray road has to he constructed, and by all appearance it should not cost ranch to do the job, but I suppose we will have to wait some time for the next move.
