A man named Furley, for the attempted murder of his sweetheart, was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. Frank Ileynolds of Tocal, a wellknown cattle-breeder, took poison by mistake, but he has since recovered. At the departure of the German warship Albatross cheers were interchanged with the British, hut she passed the French warship Bljino in silence. Tlie Phino’s gig beat the boats of the Danae and German corvette at the Balmain Regatta. The Wolverene, on her arrival, issued a challenge, resulting in the victory of the crew of the Wolverene. At the inquest on the body of Constable Bo'v/eu Captain Moonlight’s demeanour entirely changed and he became quite subdued. He said that he knew who shot Bowen, but he was no informer. He now realises his position ■and wishes to clear himself. The Intercolonial cricket match was won by New South Wales, by 32 runs. The Cricket Association wish to arrange an Intet'colonial match with Sydney. The distinction between duty and postage stamps will be abolished after Jan. 1. WESTERN AUSTRALIA. Sir A. ,P. Burt, who has been Chief Justice since 18G1, is dead. It ,is .proposed to give Alexander Forrest a public reception at Perth.
