TRACK TO THE NEW RUSH.
The following is a copy of the petition adopted at the public meeting held at Westbrook on Tuesday evening last, pfayiilg the Grey Comity Council to construct a track to the new rush at Ciipb Terrace. The petition, to which over 200 signatures are appended, will, ■we understand, be presented to the Council to-day;— To the Chairman and Members of the Grey County Council. Gentlemen— We, the undersigned miners and business people residing at Westbrook and Cape Terrace would beg respectfully to bring under your notice the great want of a horse track to the new rush at Cape Terrace. The present rush is now many months old, with a population of nearly 200 miners. The ground is undei going a good and laborious testing, with something like 30 tunnels in full work, and With lieatly half that number on gold ; we therefore deem it a .full and sufficient reason to draw your attention to the great necessity of a track, to meet our wants, by giving better facility in travelling, and enabling ns more easily to get our supplies,- instead of carrying the same on our backs over a rough, muddy, bush country since the beginning ef the rush. In conclusion, we would respectfully point out that we look upon the- present discovery as a Valuable one, with the conviction also that the country lying between Candlelight and Cameron’s does possess a continuation of the gold already found, affording every ground for believing that an extensive goldfield is now opening-tip in the Giey County. Yotir petitioners trust that the prayer of theii petition will receive the best consideration of your honorable body, and as in duty bound, they will ever pray, &c.
