. Sept. 5. A writ has been served at the suit of W. Clarke, Civil Engineer against the proprietors of the Enening Chronicle, claiming Jl 1600 damages, for alleged false and malicious stateriients made during the last mayorality' contest. The first number of the New Zealand Punch appeared this morning. It is a very creditable production, both in matter and typography.
