He defended the Government policy and received a unanimous vote of -confidence. Wellington', August 20, Captain M'Kersie has been reinstated in command of the Stella. The Premier and Mr Fisher go ttf Christchurch to-morrow. A proclamation in the Gazette notifies the Governor has signed a warrant for the issue of writs for the election of the House of Representatives. • The writs to be dated the 18th August and returnable on the l7th September. The proclamation also calls Parliament together at iiobn of September 17thAugust 12. It is reported on good authority that Mr Thompson the Surveyor- General* has resigned office. Mr Whitaker addressed the Eden electors at a very noisy meeting. He received a vote of thanks. Whitaker said Vogel Would Sever his connection with the Colony and <rp into the House, of Commons for Falmouth. Mr Reader Wood addressed the Waimata electors as a Grey candidate and received a hearty vote of confidence;
