[XEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] LATEST FOREIGN NEWS. London, August 15. At the wool auctions during the past week 44,600 bales have been catalogued. There was a fair demand for scoured wools, which found moat favour with buyers. The American harvest prospects are favourable.
Quebec, August 17 Serious riots occurred between the French and Irish ship labourers at Quebec, and several were killed and wounded. The artillery and military were called out.
LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, August 19. A detachment of artillery and police, fully armed, have proceeded to Newcastle to quell, if necessary, the expected riots among the coal miners. Bishop Selwyn will deliver an address to-night on the Melanesian Mission. Liberal contributions are being made to the fund. Melbourne, August 19. The robbers of the Commercial Bank at Lancefield were captured last night at Sandhurst. They are named Grey and Some. The latter recently committed a murderous assault on Ins master.
