SYDNEY EXHIBITION.
The commissioners for the Sydney Exhibition have decided on erecting two machinery annexes, furnishing a total space of 100,000 ft., and shelter sheds will also he enacted, bringing the entire covered in space, at their disposal up to close upon half a million feel. It is intended to show machinery in motion, together with various processes of manufacture, and to this department of the exhibition it is aniioipated that Victoria will contribute largely. In a communication received on Monday from the secretary, it is.‘■•fated that there will be shown at the exhibition machinery and a method on a working scale for extracting the precious metals not only from untreated tailings, but from those which hare been treated in the ordinary manner. The merits of this invention are placed verp high, for it is aledged that there is every reason to believe that at least- 50 or 60 per cent, of gold now left in the tailings will be saved under the new system. The process, moi cover is a cheap oive and it-is consideied that its general adoption will greatly increase the production of gold in Victoria. The inventor is desirous of subjected his apparatus to a thorough test, and has adopted a somewhat novel expedient. Mine proprietors and others resident on the goldfields of this colony are invited to contribute Samples of not less than Icwteach of gold bearing quartz or samples of tailings of the minimum weight of 201 b. each for the purpose of treatment. A careful analysis will be taken, and no charges will be made, the inventor merely retaining the result of the crushing. win, h in some instances may not ■ yield “ the colour.” IB promised th t the operations will be conducted under the supervision of oflieers ot the commission, and it is particulary requested that samples of tailings may be sent at once, in order to permit of analysis before the exhibition opens.
