A debate took place iu the House of Lords last night relating to Free Trade v. Protection. The Premier spoke on the subject, and declared that recipio. city, which meant a reverse of Free Trade principles, was now sinpiy impossible.
At a ireeting of the Liberal party at Chelsea, Sir Charles Dilke, chahman, Mr Berry, in n'ply to an address, said that he expected ultimately to see Australia was now more like a republic than the monarchy of England.-

The Chelsea Liberals, Dilke presiding, presented an address to Berry, who detailed the political difficulties of Victoria, and announced that the Home Government believed a change under certain conditions would lie a means of settling the difficulty ; he was willing to renew his efforts in Melbourne, and would submit a Bill next session, or if the Council think fit, after the general election. The Act either then would be passed by the Colony or certainly by the Imperial Parliament. The Cabinet gives a reply on Saturday. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Adelaide, May 2.
