THE ZULU WAR.
It sounds as peel of distant thunder That breaks ou Afric's rugged shore ; Clash of arms, cries of anguish, Mingle with the cannoiv's roar. The Zulus, from their hidden ambush, They pour on a devoted few, Messengers of deadly import, But still they're atedfast, firm and true. The savage hoard, with demon fury And fiendish yell then swift advance ; But they must pause, for sons of Albion Oppose, with rifle, sword, and lance. But on, as tempests sweep the ocean, Or clouds by storm float o'er the akf, They still press onward, and the BritonWho is not lowly; laid must fly. Ye gods ! must the proud Celt and Saxon* Humble to the Kaffir slave ! Is no aid near ? no helping hand, To shelter or assist the brave-?. ; > Soldiers ! forward, to the rescue ! Have revenge for comrades slain !. .. Think on former feats of arms, And from your honour wipe this stain ! Heaven ! to Thy protecting arm " We now commit our little band ; And may we soon hear shouts of victory Resounding through their natiye land ! Nosraß.
