HOKITIKA EASTER RACES.
The second day’s races held at Hokitika yesterday was in point of attendance worse than the first, although the weather was of a more agreeable and temperate character. The following were the events contested :
Handicap Hurdle Race, of 20 sovs., 2 miles. Mr Clarke’s Kensington, 6 yrs, lOst 71b ... .. i Kensington walked over for this race. Westland Handicap, of 45 sova., 2 miles. Second horse to receive 5 sovs., out of the stakes. Mr J. Cameron’s Native, 6 yrs, Bst (Barton) 1 Mr J. Ashton’s Doctor, aged, 7st 121 b (White) 2 Won easy by Native, through a stumble on the part of Doctor, Novel Selling Rack, of 20 sovs., \\ miles and a distance. Sparrow j Plough 80y... ... ... ... 2 Sweetbriar ... ... ... ... 3 Won easily by Sparrow. Ladies Purse, of £ls, \\ miles and a distance, welter weights. Mr Cameron’s Native, 6 yrs, (Burcheli) V. ••• 1 Mr x\shtoii’s Doctor,aged,(Terry) ... 2 Mr Claike’s Kensington, 6 yrs ... 0 Mr Barton’s Bat, aged ... ... 0 This race was won somewhat easily by
Native. The Bat run well until nearly the end of the last round,when he was passed by Doctor.
The Consolation Stakes only brought two to the post, Blazing Star and Banker. The former won through the swerving and earrbic steering of the latter.
