Auckland, April 15. Messrs Macfield and John Grey were nominated for the City Council. Yelverton O'Connel, a carpenter of East Hamilton, who two years since eloped with Martha Millions, and was tried in Auckland and acquitted, for giving a false declaration to the Registrar, hns met a violent death at Haruiton. Waikato. He was contractor for building a store and fell off the roof striking his chest and belly on a transverse beam. Hedidnotfeel seriously ill and continued working, but mortification was the result, and he died. He leaves a widow and child at Raglan. Invercargill, April 15. The volunteer iwiew and sham fight to-day, was on the whole very successful. Tho moini g was threatening but the weather dea-e.l up by 8 o'clock and the sun shon- out in a manner that surprised the Northeru visitors, but before the review was over a couple of heavy showers dispersed the spectators, and gave everyone on the ground a good Wfttinti.
