Opunake, April 3, The first contingent of Armed Constabulary arrived here to-day and they were all landed on the beach about noon.
Wellington, April 2. Governor Robinson and Sir George Grey had an interview at Government house to-day. The Governor will be invited to a ball at the Imperial Opera House on the 18th.
Edward Tootnath has been appointed Commissioner of Education Reset ves. It is stated by the Government that the removal of the survey party on the .Manawatu river was the result of misapprehension on the part of the Maoris, the survey party not having given the Maoris notice of their instructions to survey the block. The Maoris express regret at the mistake, and have allowed the party to return to work.
Messrs Ballance and Maoandrew left this afternoon in a buggy to travel over the route of the West Coast railway.
1 he first raai iiage of a Maori woman by the Regi-trar occurred to-day, at the Supreme Court. There are srill no tidings of the missing yacht Fa tiny Goddard. The racehorses Pmtire and Sinking bund went south to-day in the Southern Cross.
