Dunedin, March 31

A carpenter named Maddox, lately carrying on business at Ashburton, was arrested in Dunedin this morning on a warrant charged with attempting to defraud his creditors. He was forwarded on to Ashtuuton in charge of Det-'ctive, Neil of that place. Mr Manders has been holding meetings in various parts of the Lake Disirict. At Skippers he received a vote indecative of approval of the line of action he had sketched out for himself in the ensuing session. At Pembroke he received a uuauiraious vote of confidence.

The Suez mail was delivered in Dunedin at G o’clock this evening, eight days in advance of contract time. The criminal sessions commence on the Bth proximo before Justice Williams. The calendar comprises two cases of stealing from the person, two chargers of obstructing the rai'way line, one for buigalry, two for forgery, one for rape, and one for stealing from a dwell-ing-house.

Blenheim, March 29. A new paper called the Marlborough Times appeared last night. Owing to the frequency of fires in Blenheim the insurance companies intend increasing the rates of prenium. A Water supply scheme for the town is contemplated, and levels are being taken and estimates will be laid before the Borough Council in May. Wheat 3s little sale j barlev changing hands freely at 5s ■ oats, 2s 6d, offered hut farmers decline to sell, holding for higher rates.
