The Burgess List and the Defaulters List are now open for inspection at the office of the Town Clerk. Owing to the heavy flood in the Arabura the mail coach did not arrive from Hokitika yesterday, the mail bags being brought on by the evening coach. A procession, consisting of some hundreds of people, headed by the Hibernian Society (in full regalia) and school children passed down Seddon street at 3.30 this afternoon, on their way to meet his Lordship Bishop Redwood on his arrival in this district. The amalgamation of the Post and Telegraph offices, although affording considerable convenience to the public, is a source of constant annoyance to the officials of that department. The postal and insurance business connected therewith, closes for the day at five o’clock; but the telegraph office is opened again in the evening for half-an-hour, and the same window being used for the whole business of both departments, leads to a very natural mistake on the part of the public, who, instead of using it for its legitimate purpose, apply forstamps, transfers, letters, and every item not allowed to be issued after hours by the rules of the departments. We are led to make these remarks in the hope that in the future the matter will be better understood by the public, and thereby save a large amount of annoyance and inconvenience to both parties. The Committee of the Kaitangata Relief Fund at Greymouth have issued a splendid programme of sports, to take place on the Racecourse on Easter Monday, in aid of the fund on behalf of the widows and children left destitute through the late colliery explosion at Kaitangata, Otago. The sports will embrace every conceivable game under the sun, and we have little doubt will attract a large number of visitors from here, who, though charitably disposed, will blend with it a good day’s enjoyment. Mr W. Will way having sold his plans and interest in the Dyeing Business to Mr R, Upjohn (who has become practically acquainted with the trade), begs to solicit the kind patronage hitherto .afforded him to his successor.—Mrs Upjohn announces that she is prepared to clean and dye hats, feathers, gloves, Ac., in the best style. N.B.— Gentlemen’s clothes cleaned, dyed, pressed, and repaired on the premises.—Advt.
