GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB RACES.
SECOND DAY.
Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the Stewards decided to carry out the remainder of the programme yesterday, as the owners of horses were not agreeable to a further postponement. There was a very poor attendance of the public. The" races were contested and won in the following order :
Ctoldpields Handicap, of 75 sovs ; If miles ; second horse to receive 10 sovs from the stake. Mr J. Cameron's Native, 6 yrs, 7st 41b ... ... ... ... 1 Mr G. Nottle's Blazing Star, aged, 7st 21b ... ... ... 2 Mr J. Clarke's Elfin King, aged, 9st 121 b o
Native challenged Blazing Star, and a aood race took place, Native wiuning by a length.
Hack Race Handicap, of 10 sovs ; l£ miles ; entrance, 1 sov ; post entries" Mr J. Jones's Warrigal, 9st 101 b ... 1 Mr George Stevenson's Hero, Bst 41b 2 Wunigal and Hero ran close together until c-.mino into the straight at the finish, when went to the front, ami won by a length.
Gkey Vallry Stakes Handicap, of 30 sovs ; H miles ; nominations, 30s ; acceptances, 30s ; nominations, with 30s, received up to 8 p.m. on night of 17th March ; weights to be declared, and acceptance, with 30s, received on course immediately after finish of Gold-fields Handicap. Mr J. Cameron's Native ... ... 1 Mr J. Clarke's Kensington 2 Doctor, Native, Kensington, Blazing Star, and Banker came to the post, Elfin King being scratched. At the old cowsheds Banker bolted off the course, when a good race took place witli the three remaining hoises, but just previous to tnrniug the corner before entering the straight Blazing Star bolted and left the race between
Native and Kensington, the former horse passing the Judge's box first. Handicap Hurdle Race, of 25 sovs ; 2£ miles ; entrance, 1 sov ; acceptances, 1 sov; nominations received, and weights declared, up to 8 p.m. on night of 17th March. Mr G. Stevenson's Septimus, 9st 131 b 1 Mr W. Cochrane's Blue Bell, aged, lOst 3 Maori Girl. Stoker, Septimus, and Blue Bell went away to an excellent start. When passing the last hurdle but one from home Maori Girl fell, and Septimus came in an easy winner. Consolation Stakes, of 15 sovs ; 1 mile ; entrance, 1 sov ; post entries.
