The followiug are the acceptances for the great Au limn Handicap :—Neilson's Fi-shook, Ray's Templeton, Kay's Maritana, R.-.y's Tifcania, Webb's Undiue, Reaves Orange Lightning, Goodman's Chancellor, Mason's Camballo, Heywood's Lira, Stevenson's Vimpire, Mallock's Foul Play, Mallock's Nemo' Robinson's Natator, Fraser's Naiad, Fraser's Mata, Fraser's Longlands, Butler's Laertes.

A fire occurred in Armagh street east on Saturday afternoon, on the premises of a Mr Scarlett, carpenter. The whole of the place was burnt down, also a cottage adjoining. The insurances are, Scarlett, cottage, £IOO in the Standard Insurance Company—furniture not insured ; Peperill's house insured in the Norwich and Union for £2OO, and the furniture in the Transatlantic for £SO.

The Minister of Public Works left here by express train for Dnnedin where he remains until the 26th ; thpn returns to Wellington to meet the Governor. Fu.-ing his stay in Christohurch he accepted the Wairapa section of the Ainberley and rlurunni railway at £23,000 ; also ordered additions to the Hospital, to the extent of £II,OOO.
