LITERARY INSTITUTE.
A meeting of the Committee of the Kumara Literary Institute was held last evening, the Rev. E. A. Scott (Vice-President) in the chair. Mr Gordon was elected a committee-' man in room of Mr Dale, who,had left Kumara.
The Secretary (Mr A. R. Petrle) reported that hills were due to the amount of about. £4O, against which there were subscriptions -due £lO,-'.' a balance in bank (£7 0s 6d), and a sum of £ls whirl) would be forthcoming from the County Council of Westlaud, leaving a deficit of about £B. The current.quaiter terminating on the 31st cf the present month, subscriptions for the ensuing quarter would then be due, and the Institute, bj the discontinuance of certain papers which appealed not to be nnioh read, might so.»n be placed in a more satisfactory finaucial condition. A committee, consisting of Messrs Gordon, Rogers, Smart, and Petrie, was appointed to cauvass fpi the subsoriptions, and it was suggested that afterwards a list of those who are in arrear with their subscriptions should be posted in the room.
The meeting was then adjourned till some day next week, to be notified by the Secretary in the usual way.
