[PRESS AOENCY.] Port Chalmers, March 12. The French barque Argonout, from Newcastle, is ashore off the Pilot beach. The s.s. Waitaki tried to tow her off, but could not, as she lay hard to sea, and will have to be lightened. Wellington, Maich 12. Sir Hercules Robinson leaves Sydney for Wellington on the 19th expected to arrive 26th. The preparations for his receptiou have commenced. The Premier and Col. Whitmore went North to-night, per Hinemoa. Col. Whitmore only goes to Napier, Sir George Grey to Auckland.
A fruiter was fined to clay for selling fruit unfit for human use. The Magistrate said he could fine him £2O according to the Act.
Two more burglers have been apprehended and remanded. About £l5O pounds worth of drapery and other property has found on the premises occupied by them. A memorial signed by over 100 persons lias been presented to the Government asking for theenrolraentof a Naval Brigade. The Mayor expressed his gratification at the fact, and expressed a hope that there would .«oon be a torpedo launch iu the harbour. The butchers assistants will in future have a half-holiday on every Wednesday. ' ' " ". ')■
